Interactive installation consisting of four electronic stethoscopes- inventions which capture bodily vibrations and transmit them into the room in real time by means of loudspeakers. Up to four persons can use the installation at the same time by holding the stethoscope close to their bodies, in the area where the heart is located, and by pressing the switch, upon which their hearbeat is heard loudly in the room.
The heart is a very sensitive organ, it constantly reacts to our thoughts, perceptions and surroundings.
Use of the work directs our focus on our bodies and space of living, life in the present moment, things we often forget about constantly multitasking and surfing through our minds.
Listening to ones heartbeat in a public space creates a feeling of being exposed and vulnerable but also a sense of interconnection. Circusmstances for a different kind of communication and perception are created.
The work was created on a residency in Pilsen, Chech Republic.
The installation is easily transported and assembled by two people.
Over the duration of one week the installation was used in the following public buildings in Pilsen:
Monday 8.12. (16:20 - 18:20) Železniční stanice Plzeň - Jižní Předměstí ( train station)
Tuesday 9.12. (13:30 - 15:30) Faculty of Electrical Engineering
Wednesday 10.12. (10:00 - 12:00) TOTEM - RDC (volunteering centre)
Thursday 11. 12. (10:00 - 12:00) Poliklinika Denisovo nábřeží ( polyclinic )
Friday 12.12. (16:00 - 18:00) Cathedral of St. Bartholomew
Sunday 14. 12. (14:00 - 16:00) OC Olympia ( shopping centre)
Each building would give its own context and „ feel“ combined with the sound of the beating heart.
Produced in association with „Pilsen 2015“, and "uradisamARTLAB“ ( Kontejner, Croatia)
